The White Flag Project
About this activity.
In a time when certainties ring out loud and identities harden, The White Flag Project chooses a different gesture: raising a white flag. Not as a sign of surrender, but as an act of courage. A refusal to accept simplistic answers. An invitation to make room for complexity, empathy, and humanity.
Thirteen artists give shape to this idea in a large group exhibition at KEL-30, the new art space in Building C of De Biotoop in Haren. The underground, raw spaces of 800 m² form the backdrop for work that searches, questions, and breaks open.
Participating artists:
Abel Kamps, Beth Wong, Katayoon Valamanesh, Karem Ibrahim, Karin van der Molen, Katharina Lökenhoff, Maaike Meindertsma, Maria Klaassen-Andrianova, Marianne Lammersen, Pat van Boeckel, Robin Kolleman, Rolina Nell, and Roos van Geffen.
Every weekend, the exhibition gains a new dimension with a public program centered on Movement, Image, Language, and Sound. On October 11, Het Witte Vlag Collectief presents performances. This is followed on October 18 by the music theater performance Infuusgabbers by Douwe Dijkstra and sneue vertoning. On October 25, Jan Oegema delivers an interactive lecture on Etty Hillesum. On November 1, music: Matrioeska | De Vertooning, combined with an open input session where visitors collectively shape a meters-long white flag between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
"For us, the white flag is a place to start anew," say the initiators. "A space where art opens the conversation that stalls elsewhere."
