My work is rooted in my observation of-and interaction with-my surroundings and daily life. Intuition and imagination play an important role. Stemming from my own femininity, women and girls take centre stage in my work. I am fascinated by universal postures and poses which, though subtle and culturally influenced, nevertheless reveal a personality. The absence of faces as a major human characteristic sets one free to explore the identity behind cultural codes. In my work, identity remains mysterious and the past remais tangible; almost with a whisper, I paint and draw these into the present, or is expressed in collages and installations.

Rolina graduated from Fine Arts, Minerva Art Academy Groningen, regularly exhibits her work, has travelled extensively and works in artist residencies worldwide. She is curator and organiser at Bierumer School, a space for production and presentation in Northeast Groningen. Rolina is also part of the platform about A woman; female artists in dialogue about their position in the art world.
