Wildvang

7 young artists were nominated for the Hendrik de Vries Grant for Visual Arts and Literature. They talked about their plans during the talk show Wildvang. There were sharp artistic reflections led by presenter Wilbert van de Kamp (aka Wilpret), an exhibition full of work by the nominated talents and last year’s winners, performances by Cissy Joan and music by Swoolish. At the end of the afternoon, Alderman for Culture Kirsten de Wrede announced the winners: Katayoon Valamanesh in the Visual Arts category and Maartje Terpstra won the Literature grant .

The nominees

The Hendrik de Vries grant is an incentive prize from the municipality of Groningen for young artists. The nominees of 2022 were: Marnix Sixma, Davey Smand and Katayoon Valamanesh in the Visual Arts category and Renske Marike van Dijk, Meinte Dirksen, Thomas van Essen and Maartje Terpstra for Literature.

Audience award

The winner of the Hendrik de Vries grant is chosen by a jury of experts. But there is also an audience award of € 1,000. And your vote counts! Who do you think deserves the audience award? Vote for your favorite nominee. Online or offline. You can vote untill 8 January via kunstpuntgroningen.nl/stem. Or visit the exhibition in Kunstpunt between 8 december and 8 January, choose your favorite and vote via the ballot box.

Exhibition

The exhibition De Oogst opens during Wildvang. In the exhibition you can see recent work by all nominees. And last year’s winners, Leonard Witte and Eise Ivo Smit, show what they have achieved with the stipend. You can visit De Oogst until Thursday 12 January.

Please note: due to the holidays, the exhibition is closed from December 24 untill January 3.

THE WINNERS OF 2021

Last year Eise Ivo Smit won the Hendrik de Vriesgrant in the Literature category. Leonard Witte received the prize in the Visual Arts category.

Leonard Witte

ABOUT THE HENDRIK DE VRIES GRANT

In 1986, the municipality of Groningen established the Hendrik de Vries grant as a tribute to the poet and painter Hendrik de Vries (1896-1989). The grant is an incentive prize for professional young artists, intended to stimulate their artistic development. It concerns 2 stipends of 6,000 euros each year. In 2022, the jury consists of: Emily Kocken (chairman), Barend van Heusden, Bart Nijstad, Sandra van Voorst, Ernst Arbouw and Rosa Everts.
