Tomm Velthuis presents 'ColorEyes' on Noorderzon

Every year, Kunstpunt Groningen asks a Groningen artist to create a work of art for the Noorderzon Festival. This year it is Tomm Velthuis (1986). He created the artwork ColorEyes for the festival: a colorful installation that provides a refreshing insight into the wonderful world of color perception.

In ColorEyes, contrasting color surfaces placed against each other under the influence of a beamer form a constantly changing tapestry into which you, as a visitor, are as it were drawn in. The artwork will be on display at Eetcafé Zondag from August 18 and can be visited every day of the festival during Noorderzon (18-28 August).

About Tomm Velthuis

Velthuis graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011 and has been working as an independent conceptual designer ever since. After a period in the Randstad, he is back on his homeland, or rather his backyard. Velthuis grew up next to the Noorderplantsoen and played theater in the (formerly) Prinsentheater throughout his childhood.

His work is diverse: from custom kitchens to conceptual installations, from commissioned work to autonomous projects. In all his projects Velthuis searches for forms of expression for his stories. Acting has always remained a great love. That is why he has devised a new profession for his work: the 'Performgever', a combination of ‘performance’ and ‘vormgever’ (Dutch for ‘designer’).

About Noorderzon ART

ColorEyes originated from the talent development program 'Noorderzon ART' of Kunstpunt Groningen in collaboration with Noorderzon. Kunstpunt has a long tradition of artworks by Groningen artists at the Noorderzon Festival. With the assignments Kunstpunt wants to offer promising artists a stage to present themselves to a large audience.

ColorEyes can be found in the Noorderplantsoen on the Kruissingel, next to eatery Zondag. The installation can be visited free of charge during Noorderzon (18-28 August), from 1 to 9 PM. The 'visual experience' will take about 5 minutes.
