NOW IN THE ART RENTAL: INTO THE CITY - LOURENS STUURMAN
About this activity.
Artist Lourens Stuurman will be showcasing recent work in the solo exhibition Into the City at the Art Rental of Kunstpunt Groningen starting April 19th. In his paintings focusing on cities and architecture, you can see a longing for a harmonious world reflected: "I seek beauty in unconventional places."
Stuurman is intrigued by architecture and the city. "I study characteristics of skyscrapers and apartment buildings. By painting fragments of buildings, the hectic part of the city is left behind, and the emphasis shifts to the tranquil architecture. Almost as if time stands still." His works are often based on photographs. Through the facades in his paintings, he then constructs a new reality. "I play with the rhythm of windows and balconies. Through repetitions, an effect is created that makes it hard to look away. My work explores beauty from different perspectives that are not commonly accepted. And I search for beauty in unconventional places."

About Lourens Stuurman
Lourens Stuurman (Amsterdam, 1997) moved to Groningen in 2018 to study Autonomous Visual Arts at Academie Minerva. He graduated in 2023 and has since been working as an artist, with his paintings already featured in three group exhibitions in three different cities: in September and October 2023, he participated in Manifestatie Jong VII at the Drents Schildergenootschap in Assen; from December 13th, 2023, to January 14th, 2024, he exhibited alongside John Striegel and Bas van Delden at Forma Aktua (Groningen); and from late January to late March 2024, his work was on display in Amsterdam in the group exhibition "jump in" by Stichting JumpstArt. The Into the City exhibition at the Art Rental of Kunstpunt is his first solo exhibition.

For this exhibition, Stuurman also showcases his favorite works from the Art Rental's collection. His fascination with cities and architecture is evident in a variety of techniques, including paintings, drawings, and photography.
