Ilse Brul | Jildau Nijboer
About this activity.
Ilse Brul
Vergezicht
The colours dance across the canvas, bright and light-footed. Ilse Brul paints outdoors, on the mudflats and in the mountains, using watercolour and finely ground gemstones mixed with seawater, ice and rain. Within her field of vision, from the tangible ground beneath her feet right up to the clouds, a space unfolds that seems to extend infinitely in ever-changing perspectives. In her studio, drawing on these experiences, she creates sparkling new worlds of colour and movement using homemade egg tempera on canvas.
Jildau Nijboer
Venster
A frame, a curtain, the glass and the view through it. Jildau Nijboer paints the place where inside and outside meet, a play of light and reflections, structures and perspectives, illusion and projection. The layers in the painting guide the viewer’s eye; the gaze moves from the surface to the colours and textures visible through the window, and on to the forms in the view beyond. Thoughts are mirrored in perception. The viewer thus becomes a participant in the process of reflection and creation.
