About this activity.
On Saturday, October 11th, the annual Potato Fest will take place in and around the Wongema village inn in Hornhuizen. This year's theme is "French fries with peace," with the potato as a symbol of love and solidarity. This year, there's a more extensive "kuriel" program for children!
It's become a tradition in Hornhuizen: the Potato Fest. An annual festival—actually a one-day festival—celebrating the potato harvest. An ode to the potato, which represents love and solidarity in various cultures around the world. On October 11th, the potato connects everyone with a slightly activist twist: "fries with peace"!
Program
The Potato Fest begins at 2:00 p.m. with an opening. Groningen band Stof will write a potato song especially for this opening, and there will be a very special crowd-pleaser, which is currently being kept secret. In the afternoon, there will be an extensive "kuriel" program for children, expeditions for adults, potato art, and a potato talk show. There's a four-course walking dinner throughout Hornhuizen, a day of cooking for those who prefer something simpler, and of course, freshly fried "patatje vrede" (fried fries with "fried" or "fried" fries) are available all day long on the square in front of Wongema. In the evening, Sunday Kids—rootsy garage rock 'n' roll from Amsterdam—and Stof—danceable electropop from Groningen—will play, and DJ Bakker will close the night.
Potato Exhibition
Potato art can be seen at various locations in Hornhuizen. A Potato-in-Residence has been selected to create potato art in the lead-up to the Potato Fest. Galerie Gewaard also hosts the recurring exhibition of unusually shaped potatoes. You can vote for your favorite potato, or you can contribute one yourself to this exhibition! Send it in or bring it along. Who knows, your tuber might steal the show and take home the gold-plated potato challenge trophy.

The potatoes can be sent to Wongema, Tammingastraat 58, 9978 PD,
Hornhuizen. Please make sure your potatoes arrive by October 9th.
