Ilse Brul creates paintings full of colour and movement. Her work develops spontaneously and moves between observed and imaginary landscapes. She is drawn to places where nature is wild and unspoilt, such as the Wadden region and the mountains. Through her synaesthesia, sound, colour and sometimes form come together. The sound of geese, the tidal current, light in a mountain stream, a pine forest, a snow crystal or a spring can thus find their way into abstract images. Her painting is always rooted in sensory perception.

At Galerie Noord, she presents large abstract watercolours in soft colours and shimmering tones, like afterimages of landscapes she has seen; paintings of mountains and the Wadden region in egg tempera; and small, intimate abstract paintings that relate to her inner world.

Ilse lives and works in Groningen. She trained as a teacher in Nijmegen, studied at the Academy of Art in Arnhem and studied Comparative Art Studies at the Catholic University of Nijmegen. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a museum educator at the Groninger Museum and runs workshops on making egg tempera paint in her studio.

Galerie Noord.

Galerie Noord is een expositieruimte in hartje Groningen. Vierwekelijks bieden we kunstenaars uit het Noorden de mogelijkheid recent werk te tonen, solo of in kleine groepen. Galerie Noord richt zich op autonoom, experimenteel en onderzoekend werk in vrijwel alle disciplines. We willen bezoekers verrassen door tentoonstellingen te bieden met een wisselend karakter. 
 
Galerie Noord wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In 1997 werd de galerie opgericht als kunstenaarsinitiatief.
