About this activity.
In the silent space of fourteen medieval churches artists work on their monk's work, art that draws on stillness, craft, and the inspiration of the ancient building. Sometimes the work touches on something that is bigger than we are. Artists work each Wednesday for six weeks, alone and in silence. And in the evening visitors are welcome to experience both work and church and engage in conversation. There are three cycle routes, in the area around Loppersum, around Eenrum and around Dokkum.
Monnikenwerk takes place on Wednesdays 12, 19 & 26 July and 2, 9 & 16 August. Ronde Noord Groningen runs from Den Andel via Westernieland and Eenrum to Saaxumhuizen. Ronde Oost Groningen is in Oosterwijtwerd, Wirdum, Loppersum, Eenum and Leermens. Ronde Noordoost Friesland visits Dokkum, Aalsum, Wetsens, Jouswier and Oostrum. All churches are open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
