MONTH OF ART IN PUBLIC SPACE

By: Redactie, 1 June 2023

Did you know that there are almost 600 works of art hanging on facades in the municipality of Groningen, in the middle of residential areas or in parks? They are in the spotlight during the Month of public art. This year the theme is 'wall art'.

THE PUBLIC ARTPRIZE

10 wall artworks have been nominated for the public artprize. And your vote counts. What is your favorite? Vote until 18 June via this page.

WORKSHOP MAKE A MURAL

Have you always wanted to make a mural yourself? Then sign up for this workshop by artist duo VAAF (Jonna Bo Lammers and Lotte Mask) on Saturday 24 June. You may know VAAF from the mural by Aletta Jacobs in the Broerstraat, the street art project in the Papengang, the artwork about the protests in Iran in the Koude Gat or one of their other successful projects.

What are you going to do? Under the guidance of VAAF, you will start designing and making a large mural. The inner wall of the large hall at Kunstpunt is 22 meters long and may be painted completely. VAAF gives you tips and tricks when designing and making a mural. And because you naturally want to paint as high as possible on the wall, you will use a special technique, namely with a brush on a stick of two meters long.

You can buy tickets here.

NEW ART

The street art collection in Groningen reflects the character of the city: versatile, ranging from ancient to contemporary, has local and international allure and was created in very diverse ways. Kunstpunt manages a large part of the artworks and maintains them in collaboration with Stadsbeheer.

Almost the entire permanent collection of street art is collected on this website. Including job descriptions, background information and other information.

During the Month of public art, Groningen's art on the street collection will be further expanded with new art.

ART ROUTES

Discover outdoor works of art. Art you must see and art you may never have noticed. On this page you will find art routes that you can walk, cycle or drive yourself and guided tours. Through the center of Groningen, through the neighborhoods or in the surrounding area, past art in Meerstad and the surrounding villages of Haren and Ten Boer. New routes are added every month.
