Art in Public Space Prize | #3 Krullend Lint
In this video series we take you to the top 3 of the Kunst op Straatprijs (Prize for Art in Public Space) 2021. This year’s theme was ‘the meeting’. You could vote for your favorite artwork. In 3rd place with 16% of the votes came Krullend Lint (Curly Ribbon) by Maeike Bokma.
A happy work in a sad place. At the children's cemetery at Selwerderhof cemetery you can find the artwork Curly Ribbon. A ribbon is used to wrap presents but also for the text on funeral wreaths. A stark contrast that can also be seen in the function. Because while parents mourn at the grave of their deceased child, other children can play at this work of art.
Did you know that there are almost 600 works of art in public places in the municipality of Groningen? You see them in parks, on facades and on squares. During the Art in public spaceweeks we put them in the spotlight.
