Verloren en hervonden (Lost and found)

The Tschumi Pavilion is filled with plants from the Hortus botanicus Haren (Haren Botanical Gardens), combined with photos, drawings and quotations. This presentation forms a preview of artworks by Wineke Gartz, Sjim Hendrix, Sjaak Langenberg and Rosé de Beer, which will be unveiled in the gardens in 2017.
Botanical gardens were originally linked to universities, but because these institutions are no longer willing or able to commit money to them, many of the gardens are in dire straits. The Botanical Gardens in Haren have also lost their scientific function and need to reconsider their social value. The Hortus Haren therefore invited artists to investigate whether the hidden and somewhat forgotten qualities of the gardens could be made visible again. Wineke Gartz, Sjim Hendrix, Sjaak Langenberg and Rosé de Beer stayed in the gardens regularly as artists-in-residence between May and August 2016, delving into its history, gardens, organisation and visitors.
These studies will form the basis for designs for artworks to be completed in 2017 (the Year of the Botanical Garden). The Tschumi Pavilion is already offering a preview of this.
