Trudy Oosterhuis

Trudy Oosterhuis (1987) is a visual artist and graduated from Academy Minerva in 2017.

“The farm is my studio. The materials present there form the basis of the works I make. With my work I want to make a connection between the world of the no-nonsense grounded peasant life and that of the cerebral, analytical art world. I look for opportunities to take materials out of context. By presenting them in a different way, they become detached from their environment, giving us the opportunity to observe and experience them in greater intensity. My work has no symbolic value, but tells the actual story of matter. The works are somewhere between a ready-made and an excess of intervention by the maker. I am particularly looking for the aesthetic connotation. The images function autonomously and are art-oriented, although the materials can be experienced as engaged because of their topicality.
In a recently started artistic research I explore the visual possibilities of the clay soil around the city of Groningen. This research consists of a personal deepening in the historical context of the area between Groningen and Thesinge and finding an aesthetic presentation of this clay soil. As a first experiment I poured clay soil in epoxy resin.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Trudy Oosterhuis. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
