Vegetable Tiles
“As an artist and designer, I want to use my contribution to ensure that people become more aware of nature and in particular the food they eat. That is why I make applied art that brings vegetables, design and people together. As an artist I want to create beautiful aesthetic applied objects to enjoy, but at the same time provoke thought. As a designer I want to make functionally applicable objects that can be used every day and that encourage wonder and reflection. During the corona I sought cooperation with Albarello, a tile factory in Friesland. Where I started my Vegetable Tiles project and it will eventually be produced there. To create these tiles I use my own ‘vegetable leather’, a collection of textiles that convert vegetable textures into a two-dimensional shape. These textiles are made of latex and serve as molds that, when printing ceramics, imprint the beautiful, natural patterns of the vegetable on the tiles. My Vegetable Tiles have the characteristic and tactile texture of different vegetables, but are formed into sturdy, square ceramic tiles. Ultimately, I expect ‘vegetable tiles’ of 13 by 13 cm that can be sold to interior companies, hotels and restaurants.”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Tamar Yogev. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
