Sanne Boekel (1995) is an illustrator and screen printer. In 2018 she graduated from Academy Minerva.

The Coping Mechanism Series

“The Coping Mechanism Series is a manifesto about the existential discomfort of millennials. Because who is that millennial we can’t stop talking about? Where does the existential discomfort come from and why do melancholy and irony reign supreme among a generation growing up in absolute prosperity?” series is a visual anthology about the search for ways of being, about aging and fear of the future, including a game, a book and a pajama collection. The game, Coping Mechanism, is the kit for modern millennials. With building pieces that do not fit together in any way and pokes fun at the social context in which millennials grow up. Because how can you build something if you don’t have the stones? In the construction drawings, with comics and illustrations, critical questions are asked in a humorous way about the problems faced by the burnout generation.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Sanne Boekel.
