Okki Poortvliet (1999) is an illustrator, designer and filmmaker.

IJswee

“IJswee is a documentary film about an ice club, a village and the warm winters. In the film we follow Oringers, the inhabitants of Odoorn, through the winter. The Oringers all experience ice woe in their own way. Christmas tree farmer Manus thinks we can never skate again. Treasurer Henk talks about the days of 15 centimeters of ice. Farmer’s son Raoul had to stop skating in Assen, now he keeps an eye on the weather app every day in the winter. Yet they also feel hope, ex-chairman Jans is confident that one day another Elfstedentocht is coming. His grandson Jeroen is sure that he will be on the ice as a new board member in the near future. As a director I also experience ice woe myself. In my youth I could skate almost every winter and now I have the feeling that the rise in temperature melts a little bit of winter every year. You can also see the ice counter that builds ice sculptures and drinks frozen milk. You see the Drenthe countryside change with the weather. You see anim ations, archive footage and you can hear the sound of ice woe in the music. And there are two trumpeters, who with their music welcome winter and say goodbye again.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Okki Poortvliet. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
