Leonard Witte

Leonard Witte (1986) is a visual artist.

Procession Jar

Procession Jar is a ceramic urn, 17 centimeters high and 10.5 centimeters in diameter, turned by ceramist Brigitte van den Boogert and decorated by me. We are two artists who have teamed up for a project that combines several ceramic works and I depict a fictional culture in my drawings in the form of sculptures, floor tiles and frescoes with strange sphinxes and plant motifs.I place these in architectural spaces and landscapes that form the eerie stage for figures who interact with them Procession Jar arises from such a drawing, and by working it out in ceramics it makes a piece of that material culture tangible.
In addition to Procession Jar, Brigitte van den Boogert has made a series of urns that vary greatly in shape, but have the same archaic appearance. In this she adds to the world that is sketched in the drawings, for which she draws from classical Greek vases, but also from finds from the prehistoric Netherlands.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Leonard Witte. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
