Jochem van den Wijngaard

Jochem van den Wijngaard (1996) is a visual artist.

“In my work I investigate the appearance of images and how the depicted relates in different forms and media to the world around us. As a result, my work often has a contemplative and investigative character about the role of art in relation to reality; about the personal, individual viewing experience in relation to universal and collective ideas and forms of collective fantasy Thinking about making art in itself, the development of ideas and the role of the ‘Thing’ created are themes that recur in my work.
I am currently working with the digital animation and graphics program Blender, in combination with ‘analog’ materials such as plexiglass and water. Nature, the relationship between reality and the imaginary, patterns and the mystical are points of reference in this. In the work I submitted for Lucht, the role of communication through images has itself become the subject of the work. Via a suggestion of reality, the usually relevant form of communication of a billboard has been exchanged for a less direct image in which there is room for subjective impressions.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Jochem van den Wijngaard. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
