Jhonie van Boeijen
Jhonie van Boeijen is a visual artist. She graduated from the Frank Mohr Institute in 2019.
“With the work I create, I like to offer the opportunity to look at consumerism in a different way. What role does social media marketing play in our food culture and how is it influenced by the introduction of new food trends? only (unknowingly) which products we buy, but also causes an extremely fast growing demand for new innovated products. This in turn influences the development of new products/packaging and this in turn ensures innovation within our consumer behaviour. As a result, we now have the created the possibility to display a clear time period with the contents of our shopping bags by combining products and packaging.
For this specific research I would like to transform messages from a necessity of life to an experience of a simulation. I am building up an international archive of as many different packaging/products as possible. These will be used to design exclusive, unreal shopping bags. The physical collected products will be used alongside the paintings as a basis for future installations. The paintings and installations will be exhibited together during the opening of this fictitious supermarket. To prevent food waste, the products will be donated to the food bank.”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Jhonie van Boeijen. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
