Book XL

“I use the financial contribution of Lucht to convert, redefine and expand an existing concept, entitled Book XL. I submitted Book XL in March 2020 as a proposal for the ‘Open Call Op Campus Academie Minerva’ of the Mondriaan Fund. This open call focused on a green and permanent use of the courtyard of Minerva Academy on Gedempte Zuiderdiep in Groningen. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the open call was canceled by the Mondriaan Fund and Academy Minerva.
Book XL is now being converted into a bid book, an ambitious and open project proposal that deepens and expands the original ideas of Book XL. Minerva’s academy building and its immediate surroundings form the starting point for an artistic vision of the existing climate plans of the municipality of Groningen, such as combating local heat stress and the decline of (urban) biodiversity.
In addition to being critical – based on a need to act and taking responsibility – the bid book will also be practical and solution-oriented. My ambition to convert Book XL into a bid book is the result of my broad professional practice as a conceptual artist in which I operate independently and, if necessary, take initiatives that serve a public interest.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Jan van der Til. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
