Henrike Scholten
Henrike Scholten (1989) is a visual artist and researcher.
“In the past period I have changed my way of working. While I previously mainly made abstract drawings in large format, I now use more and more recognizable images in my work. I’ve also been working more with smaller formats lately. But the new drawing you see on the poster is two meters high. Its composition refers to that of a seventeenth-century print, but apart from that almost everything is improvised and made up. Up close you can see that everything is not right. For example, the plants are not existing plants, but abstract forms.
I also use a background here, so that the drawing is not a shape on a white surface, but an environment. The support of Lucht enables me to make a series of new drawings in which the viewer can step inside, as it were. In addition, I want to take even more liberties in my way of working: experimenting with what makes an image convincing, and what happens when I allow deliberate clumsiness in my drawing style. In this way, the new works are about drawing as a process.”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Henrike Scholten. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
