Museum of the Moon – Luke Jerram (2018)

Temporary art in public spaces

The impressive artwork Museum of the Moon by English artist Luke Jerram is a life-size moon which has a diameter of no less than 7 metres. Inside, the moon is illuminated, making its razor-sharp surface stand out even more. Every centimetre you see equates to 5 kilometres in real life. The installation features musical compositions by Dan Jones, making the lunar museum enchanting, alienating and inspiring. During the Let’s Gro festival – from 31 October to 3 November 2018 – Museum of the Moon hung in Waagplein. In collaboration with the festival, the CBK succeeded in bringing this travelling installation to Groningen for this purpose.

Museum of the Moon is a co-production of a number of organisations brought together by artist Luke Jerram and the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, including: At-Bristol, Kimmel Center, Lakes Alive, Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof in Belgium, Brighton Festival, Greenwich + Docklands International Festival, Without Walls, Cork Midsummer Festival and Les Tombées de la Nuit in Rennes (France). The artwork was created in collaboration with the UK Space Agency, University of Bristol and The Association for Science and Discovery Centres.
