Comics on the Grote Markt

Realised art in public spaces

Groningen city centre is undergoing changes: the new construction of the east wall of the Grote Markt and, behind it, the Groninger Forum. The CBK asked cartoonists to depict these changes on the fence around the new building. The 8th and final comic of this relay was drawn by illustration collective Knetterijs and concerns the opening of the Groninger Forum. On nine plates you can see a parade of well-known and unknown Groningen residents passing by, such as sportsmen, residents, artists and businessmen, on their way to the Forum. If you look closely, you will also see the Alderman for Culture, Paul de Rook, on his way to the opening ceremony. Will he arrive in time?

Previously, there were comics by Sam Peeters, Barbara Stok, Erik Wielaert, Bart Nijstad, Maria van Driel , the Stalinskis and Jan-Willem Spakman.

The comics on the Grote Markt were created in collaboration with the project manager Grote Markt Oostwand and Forum and partners of the Dutch Comic Museum, the Groninger Forum and local entrepreneurs.
