Artwork on a sewer pipe

Art commissions for companies

Client: Construction of the southern ring road and the municipality of Groningen

Due to the construction of the southern ring road in Groningen, sewage pipes are temporarily above ground. This affects the sewer pressure pipeline between Leonard Springerlaan and Zuiderbegraafplaats on Hereweg that is 80 centimetres in diameter and 1,200 metres long, as well as the ‘jumpers’, structures that guide the sewer pipes across the road. Artist Eva Stalinski has turned these rusty pipes into a temporary work of art. She playfully depicts what happens inside the pipe and how important sewage is. It also shows our daily life: our household habits and views on hygiene in relation to water purification. Stalinski also created an illustration for the project, which she distributed in the neighbourhood as a leporello: a leaflet folded like an accordion.
