‘My name is Reinout Velleman. I was born in Zeist in 1999, and for several years now, I have been living and working as a visual artist in Groningen. In addition to my work as an artist, I am also appointed as lecturer in art history at the University of Groningen since 2023.

My paintings are figurative and build on a tradition of landscape and genre painting. In my works, I often portray a person as a character surrounded by their attributes, or I present a scene drawn from daily life that does not fully explain itself. Recurring themes include life in the city, the night, and the act of looking. I draw inspiration from my immediate surroundings: the city of Groningen and its history.’
