We humans suffer from the fact that we are thinking beings. We struggle through good and bad times in our lives. It seems a miracle that most of us manage to keep up. We are fragile, even though we often think otherwise. Eveline van Duyl harbors an ambivalent attitude toward us humans. Humanity fascinates her immensely, yet she can tolerate very little of it. But her work is always about it! Her thoughts and feelings find their way into all her photographic, spatial, and drawn work.

The philosophers are never far away, with all their sensible and nonsensical thoughts and inventions. They, too, have to live life from scratch, without practice. With all the trial and error that entails. They still remain a great source of inspiration!

She usually makes sculptures from wood. Sometimes she glues a piece to it or combines it with materials she has collected. Sometimes she already sees in a trunk where the work should go. Her works are never realistic. They are recognizable as human or animal figures, with character. They are often faces, but also full-length people.
