Aimée Terburg (Groningen, 1971) works with the nature of abstract genres and locations. She uses the spirit or history of things and thoughts, in simplicity, to construct appearances on canvas, paper and walls. Expertise and intuition go hand in hand resulting in works of art or site-responsive installations that resonate with their making, surrounding and the viewer.

As a catalyser she lets details reveal the making process or creates apparent 'shifts of surface', validating moments and slowing down perception as if to be completed by the viewer's experience.

The studio of Aimée Terburg is in the live-work space 'het Oude RKZ' in Groningen. She is of Dutch-Surinamese descent, and graduated cum laude at art academie Minerva in 1994. Terburg is also an independent writer & curator, and defines herself as a contextualist. Inviting her to teach or make art always gives new perspectives.
