Untitled
Gjalt Blaauw
About this artwork.
An accumulation of three stones made of different materials and with very different shapes and positioning. The work is robust and powerful. The middle and upper stones both appear elongated but contrast with each other through the use of materials and different directional placement. The upper stone seems to be in an unstable equilibrium, seemingly carelessly placed, typical of the work of Gjalt Blaauw. The lower stone acts as a pedestal and contrasts again with the upper stones in its dark colour and modest, directionless and relatively smooth shape.
This piece was purchased by the Municipality of Groningen through the BKR scheme and stood for a long time in the sculpture garden at Stadsbeheer on the Gotenburgerweg. On 10 June 2016, the statue was unveiled in the Bessemoerpark, in front of the renovated community centre “Garden Path” (Tuinpad).
