Untitled (With Poem by Noralie)

Herman Bartelds

About this artwork.

In front of the entrance to the Parcival College stands a granite sculpture with partly smooth and partly rough surfaces. Between the solid lower portion and the slender upper, there is a rectangular block decorated with a poem by pupil Noralie on all four of its sides. This piece illustrates a collaboration between the Lower and Upper Schools of the Vrije School, which are to be found at two locations on Merwedestraat.

Here is a small translated fragment of the poem:

Look at me, I’m joining in
with the sun and the wind
let me drift in her lap
until, whirling, I can
escape to a safe place
find the branch that, rocking,
waits for me, and only me
