Untitled

Gjalt Blaauw

About this artwork.

The statue is made of natural stone from the Anröchte quarry in the German Ruhr area. A welded iron shape is stacked on top of the carved stones. Because of the slanting position, it seems as if the iron can slide down in this way, but at the same time the whole has the appearance of a robust image. This interplay with balance – of lead and yet in balance – is characteristic of the work of Gjalt Blaauw.

The artwork was initially created for the Piccardthof pond, but when this area was granted the status of a Nature Monument, it was found unsuitable for placement. Now the statue is in the Beijummerbos forest.

Location.

Noorddijkerweg (Recreatiepark Noorddijk)
