About this artwork.
Walking over the dyke along the Paterswoldseweg there is a beautiful view over the Piccardthofplas. The path ends at a “lookout point”: a ring of Corten steel with a 25-metre diameter. Nine sycamore trees have been planted to turn the inside of the ring into a leafy spot and give the artwork a roof of greenery. In two places, the circle is opened by three-metre-high gates. Through one of these gates, a steep staircase leads down the dyke.
In terms of use of materials and monumentality, the artwork is in keeping with the light screen placed on the other side of the road, along the Piccardthofplas. This is no surprise, because both works were made by Noud de Wolf. The artist frequently works with Corten steel; he finds it important that his artwork is surrounded by greenery. This colour complements red, which brings out the warm reddish-brown colour of the Corten steel. His Corten steel artwork at the former nature museum (An oasis in the city) and at the Ulgersmaweg (The cut) is also integrated into a "green" environment.
