Pheasant (Fazant)

Klaas Lageweg

About this artwork.

On the side wall of the house at Polderstraat 23, you will see a painting of a giant pheasant. His eyes are surrounded by a striking bright red skin underlined with a white neck ring and a brown body.

The wall decoration was created following inspiration that hit the artist Klaas Lageweg, who happens to live in Polderstraat. He found this place – a basketball court – the perfect location for a mural. With the cooperation of the Nijestee Housing Association, he was able to bring his idea to life. He conducted a mini neighbourhood survey and decided on the image of a local polder animal, the pheasant. His work is characterised by the use of large pixels combined with a realistic image. Lageweg (the artist) calls this combination of realism and pixels 'real-pixelism', a reference to the current digital age.
