Girl with headscarf (Meisje met hoofddoek)

Swami Anand Vygiano

About this artwork.

Lost in thought, oblivious to the glances cast by passers-by, the naked girl wraps the cloth around her head. She is pure and fragile, yet sensual and confident at the same time.

The statue was offered for sale in 1985 by artist Swami Anand Vygiano (artist name of Pouwel Jan Scholma) - optionally in stone or bronze - to the former municipality of Haren, which subsequently decided to purchase the bronze version. The almost 1 meter high statue was given a place next to the Dorpskerk, but because it was no longer there in terms of space, it was moved in 1989 to the small park near the church.
