Landscape (Landschap)
Maggi Giles
About this artwork.
For the opening of nursing home Coendershof, Maggi Giles designed a wall sculpture in high and low relief that is over ten meters wide and approximately four meters high, totaling 35 m2. It incorporates 1249 hand-baked and glazed tiles. The colorful mosaic depicts a landscape with animals and is based on the creation story. The execution was realized in collaboration with N.V. Koninklijke Delftsche Aardewerkfabriek De Porcelijne Fles in Delft.
The commission was made within the framework of the 'percentage scheme'. This scheme, established by the government in 1951, stipulated that 1 to 1.5 percent of the construction costs could be allocated for 'decorative furnishing', which included the installation of permanent works of art of a monumental character.
In 2014, the new building of the nursing home was completed, now called residential care center De Brink. The artwork was moved from the entrance to the exterior of the building, next to the entrance of the parking area.
