The Circulatory System (De Bloedsomloop)
Siep van den Berg
About this artwork.
The Circulatory System was donated by medical specialists when they moved from the Viakonessenhuis to Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan in 1965. The abstract-geometric artist never gave titles to his work, but one of the doctors immediately saw a schematic representation of the circulatory system in it, with red for oxygen-rich blood and blue for oxygen-poor blood. Since then, the image has been known to everyone as The Circulatory System.
The sculpture has since moved with the Martini Hospital from Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan to the Van Swietenplein. It stands there along the pedestrian route between the car park and the new main entrance.
