Curly Ribbon (Krullend Lint)
Maaike Bokma
About this artwork.
For the children's graveyard at Selwerderhof cemetery, the municipality wanted somewhere where relatives could sit quietly and where children could play at the same time.
The artwork Curly Ribbon consists of a long 'ribbon' shaped into two large curls. A ribbon evokes both the happy and sad associations in this place. It is used to wrap a gift but also to add text to a wreath. This same contrast is present in the fact that children can play here while parents can mourn at the grave of their deceased child.
