Public Art Prize.

Did you know there are nearly 600 artworks in public spaces throughout Groningen? You can find them in parks, on squares, or right in the middle of residential neighborhoods. Some of these works are so familiar that you hardly notice them anymore. Others stand out—because they’re beloved by the community, hold a special place, or simply tell a beautiful story. During the Public Art Month, ten of these artworks will be put in the spotlight. They’re competing for the 2025 Public Art Prize. This year’s theme is local heroes.

Which one is your favorite? Vote from June 1st to June 20th.

The Public Art Prize is part of Guardians of Grunn this year—a graphic novel in which both well-known and lesser-known artworks from the city center of Groningen come to life as superheroes.
