On June 1, the Month of Street Art begins. From iconic sculptures to hidden gems, the municipality of Groningen is home to nearly 600 artworks in public spaces. Together, they tell stories about places, residents, and the history of Groningen. During this month, Kunstpunt highlights ten remarkable works. The public decides which one will win the 2026 Street Art Award.
The nominated artworks demonstrate how diverse public art can be: from monumental sculptures to street art and pieces you might not immediately notice, but which hold great significance for their surroundings. The theme of the 2026 Street Art Award is representation: who and what do we see reflected in the art that surrounds us every day? Which stories are being told, and which are still missing?

Art in the city: visible and accessible
Kunstpunt Groningen manages and maintains a large part of the artworks in public space, in collaboration with Stadsbeheer. Throughout the entire month of June, these works receive extra attention. The nominated artworks are marked with striking yellow signs, there is the exhibition Public Acts at Kunstpunt, and there are playful discovery tours along artworks throughout the city.
