New location for artwork Auke de Vries

The artwork Untitled (1990) by artist Auke de Vries can be visited again. The two steel sculptures of 9 and 11 meters high have been given a new place and are now located on the (peninsula) island of 't Nonnengat in the Hoornsemeer near the hotel Best Western Plus Hotel Groningen Plaza (formerly Hampshire Hotel). The artwork was temporarily removed and restored due to the redevelopment of the area.

Auke de Vries (1937) has been working as a painter, draftsman and etcher since the early 1950s. He has been making metal sculptures since the 1970s. His sculptures are light, abstract constructions made up of geometric shapes that seem to float: lines, cones, cubes, cylinders and surfaces. He allows his images to match the architecture on the spot. De Vries has received several awards for his extensive oeuvre. Read more about the artwork here.
