Joyce Zwerver (1990) won the Hendrik de Vries stipendium 2020 in the Visual Arts category a year ago, an incentive grant for young, talented Groningen artists and writers. What has she made with this stipend?
How did you experience the past year?
"For the first time, thanks in part to this stipend, I was able to fully focus on my practice and that offered a lot of freedom. Among other things, I was able to devote a lot of time to further developing a new medium within my work, collages, which now creates a A strong series was created. The opportunity to use coaches was also very pleasant and made me look more closely at the project."
Can you give a little glimpse of the work you have done with the stipend?
"During Wildvang there is a first presentation of my project. Due to new discoveries and developments during the process, the project has become even bigger than it already was. A series of collage works can currently be seen next to the concept that there is a map for the major works in the province - including a walking map that will connect all these locations and works. I want to realize these in 2022. So the presentation is also a foretaste of what is to come."
How do you think it will soon be possible for everyone to see your work in the exhibition?
"It is especially nice to be able to show new work outside your studio and to be able to share it with the outside world, especially after having worked on a project for a year. In my opinion, there is a strong series and interesting plans for it. next year to carry out the next part of the project. Hopefully the visitors will share this opinion and will be encouraged to continue following the project next year!"
