Harvest Festival
Wednesday October 4th, starting at 5 PM
Volkshortus Selwerd
We would like to invite you to the Harvest Festival at Volkshortus Selwerd. The festival will be opened by Councilor Kirsten de Wrede. Since its opening in April, Volkshortus has transformed into a green oasis and a true meeting place for neighborhood residents. They have cultivated a wide variety of plants and flowers, including zucchinis, Tibetan cucumbers, peppers, and pumpkins, just to name a few from the harvest. Artists Saskia Janssen and George Korsmit conceived Volkshortus with the intention of creating a portrait of the neighborhood residents and their diversity through plants.
The success of Volkshortus is partly due to the volunteers who have enthusiastically managed the greenhouse in the past months. Together with the volunteers and the neighborhood residents, we want to celebrate this success with a Harvest Festival, providing an opportunity to meet each other over drinks and soup.
Will you be there?
You are warmly invited to the party on Wednesday, October 4th, at 5:00 PM, on the courtyard between Elzenlaan and Hazelaarstraat. The doors open at 4:45 PM.
Antoine Ballerino, a local artist, will project his video work onto the greenhouse from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. His inspiration for this comes from Volkshortus.
If you’re interested in learning more about the plants in the greenhouse, attend biologist Tinde van Andel’s lecture before the Harvest Festival from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. She will share insights into plants and how people utilize them, with a specific focus on the plants in Volkshortus.
Volkshortus Selwerd was realized on behalf of Kunstpunt Groningen in collaboration with the Municipality of Groningen and Nijestee. Do you want to learn more about Volkshortus? Check out this page.
