MULTIPLE BY COLLECTIEF DE TEGEL
Start your art collection or expand it!
With Kunstpunt’s annual multiple, an artwork produced in a limited edition by emerging artists, you, as an art lover, have the chance to bring home a unique yet relatively affordable piece.
This year, Collectief De Tegel has created a series of tile-shaped wall sculptures. The artists photographed everyday objects and rituals, removing them from their usual context by printing the images on transparent plastic film and casting them in blocks of epoxy resin. What once seemed ordinary now takes on a new meaning. The front of each block is sanded to a matte finish, making the image appear vague and almost intangible. Only when the surface becomes wet does the image reveal itself clearly.
The multiple consists of an edition of 6 artworks measuring 15 x 15 x 5 cm. Each piece features a unique image and has its own identity, yet all six are connected in both form and theme.
What is a multiple?
A multiple is an artwork produced in a limited edition, unlike a unique artwork, which exists only once. The idea is that several people can own the same work without it becoming a mass-produced item.
Key features of a multiple:
-
Limited edition – usually only a small number of copies are made.
-
Same design – all copies are the same or very similar.
-
Affordable – because there are multiple copies, they are often less expensive than a unique artwork.
-
Exclusive – it remains special because the number of copies is limited and it is usually sold through specific channels only.
Price and sales
The artworks are available for a special price of €475 each (the regular price is €850 each).

How the multiple was created
For their photography, the artists used 120mm film, which produces square, tile-shaped images that subtly reference the collective’s name. By printing these images on transparent plastic film, they detach them from their material origins, allowing them to function as floating representations.
Each image is then cast in a block of epoxy resin measuring 15 × 15 × 5 cm. Because the front surface is sanded matte, the image appears soft and almost unreachable. But when the surface becomes wet, the image temporarily reveals itself in full clarity. Although the work appears solid, it is in essence playful and fleeting. “This playful, temporary, and interactive aspect is an important part of the work and aligns closely with our previous practice,” the artists explain.

Art by Commission
Each year, Kunstpunt Groningen commissions a young artist to create a multiple, supporting their professional development. This year, the selection committee — consisting of Margriet Brouwer and Niek Hendrix — chose the proposal by Collectief De Tegel, who usually create autonomous works for whom making a multiple is not a natural step. The committee is looking forward to the outcome: “We are very curious to see how these artists will translate their practice into a multiple.”
In previous years, artists Mirthe van Wermeskerken, Eirik Jahnsen, Fynn van der Ziel, and Mădălina Mihuțoiu created a multiple for Kunstpunt.
About Collectief De Tegel
Collectief De Tegel (2023) is an artist collective formed by four autonomous visual artists: Abel Kamps, Indira de Boer, Jens Buis, and Sverre van der Velde. They share a passion and natural drive for making art, as well as recurring themes in their work and a strong, collective preference for aesthetics.
The artists founded De Tegel as a foundation for their artistic practice—providing not only a comfortable working environment, but also a space for ongoing group dialogue about their work. By looking at each other’s practice with honesty, curiosity, and a critical yet open attitude, De Tegel functions both as a personal feedback group and as an essential guide for artistic development.
Although they often work individually, they joined forces for this multiple commission.
