Stream on a forest side
George Jan Hendrik Poggenbeek
About this artwork.
George Jan Hendrik (Geo) Poggenbeek (1853 - 1903) was a painter and is considered part of the afterlife of the Hague School. Poggenbeek worked in an office as a youngster, but under the influence of his friendship with the painter Theo Hanrath, who died young, he chose the painting profession when he was nineteen. He was apprenticed to courses at the State Academy of Fine Arts. At the beginning of the 1870s he often drew in Drenthe and mainly painted cityscapes and landscapes abroad. Poggenbeek is considered to be part of the afterlife of the Hague School. He painted and watercolored in a dreamy style and worked with soft, fine base tones, often in a specific, bright shade of green. Much of his work is in the possession of major museums in the Netherlands.
He painted Stream on a forest side at the end of the nineteenth century.
