Portrait Queen Beatrix

Jeroen Henneman

About this artwork.

Jeroen Henneman (born 1942) is a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor and theater and television maker from Haarlem. He studied from 1959 - 1961 at the Institute of Applied Arts in Amsterdam. His most famous work is the 2006 monument to Theo van Gogh, The Scream. Unveiled in 2007, the memorial depicts freedom of expression and how Van Gogh was silenced. Another well-known work is a portrait of Princess Beatrix, then Queen Beatrix. The portrait is a screen print of the metal sculpture made by Henneman in 2000. A thousand copies of the screen print were made, of which number 239 is owned by the municipality.

Henneman did not want to take a snapshot of the queen. He wanted to capture the queen in a period of ten, fifteen years. The face also contains all the other images of the queen, her early years, the years she was with Claus, all those memories are in it so that she is highly recognizable.
