Kunstruimte BlockC
14 June 2025 to 5 July 2025

About this activity.

In her first solo show at Gallery Block C, Radina Kordova delves into Bulgarian folklore and cultural memory by confronting lived experiences. Through a performance, she challenges how patriarchal values shape female identity in Eastern Europe by building a traditionally inspired drinking fountain (cheshma) and embodying a reimagined version of the folklore spirit, Samodiva.

The work invites the audience into a liminal space where unsettling inherited norms are recalled and reclaimed by the use of vulgar language. The exhibition coincides with the Bulgarian Midsummer celebrations and the Rusalka Week, a folkloric time when the world is considered to be between realms. As part of the Rusalka Week ritual, visitors are invited to bring an offering: a herb, a red thread, or a stone to place at the cheshma.
