Wunder Punkt
About this activity.
Lenka Roosendaal & Simon Scharinger present their duo exhibition 'Wunder Punkt'. Their work asks questions about how perception is mediated by power, how systems define visibility and vulnerability, and how painting can reclaim a space for embodied presence within structures that seek to contain it.
Lenka Roosendaal’s work explores the relationship of body, landscape and machine. Her process reveals a reflection on the exploitation of the female body and environment. Through painting, she examines how natural and industrial systems intertwine, revealing tensions between softness and rigidity, growth and control. Her process begins with collecting stones from specific sides that hold an emotional background of being marked by extraction. Landscapes behave as bodies mirroring the ways patriarchal and industrial forces inscribe themselves upon the earth and upon women. She grinds the stones into pigments and mixes them with different acrylic paint media. This physical engagement with material forms the basis for her exploration of surface and texture. Her visual compositions oscillate between constructed order and intuitive gesture. They hint at renewal, even within systems marked by stain or decay.
Simon Scharinger’s process gives form to that which hides in plain sight, oscillating between revelation and denial. In his practice, he investigates the emotional and structural interior of the human body through painting. Research sources include clinical scans, anatomical archives, diagnostic,- and medical images, in which invisible systems are made visible. He is intrigued by the tension of (mis)perception that shapes embodied ideas. Creating his own oil sticks, transparent primers, and grounds lays the foundation for developing paintings that operate between figuration and abstraction, allowing him to approach figuration not solely as narrative or representation, but as presence.
