Who Writes History?
About this activity.
Museum aan de A is a guest at the Groninger Museum with its own exhibition. Who Writes History? takes you along in the development of the future Museum aan de A about the history of Groningen and its people.
In Who Writes History? you will see important pieces from Groningen as well as unique objects that tell very personal stories. For the new museum, Museum aan de A developed an installation in which a robotic arm writes history – based on historical facts combined with live input from current data. This remarkable installation can already be seen in the exhibition at the Groninger Museum. It raises the question: Who writes the history of Groningen?
Blueprint
Museum aan de A currently exists only as a blueprint. The building on the Brugstraat in Groningen is closed and awaiting a major renovation. The medieval buildings will be made more sustainable and more accessible. In the renovated museum, a new permanent exhibition will present the history of Groningen, always in connection with current affairs. The future museum will tell the story of both the city and the province of Groningen.
The temporary exhibition invites you to think along about what should be shown in the new Museum aan de A. Which stories deserve to be told – and how? And who is actually telling the story?
Who Writes History? is developed by Museum aan de A in collaboration with the Groninger Museum and the Groninger Archives. More than 70 percent of the exhibited works come from the collection of the Groninger Museum. For the exhibition design and technology, Museum aan de A collaborates with Tapart, Paul&Albert, Studio Louter and OPERA Amsterdam.
Groninger Museum.
