White Elephants IX: Time Collage
About this activity.
The artists Marijke Klamer and Merel Wendt, who both graduated from Academy Minerva in 2021, have been asked to respond to the collection of the Streekhistorisch Centrum Stadskanaal (SHC) in a series of ceramic objects. This resulted in a varied presentation, in which Wendt was inspired by the glass industry in the Canal region, while Klamer was particularly fascinated by peat extraction and peat history. The Branbergen biscuit factory, which once stood in Musselkanaal, led the two artists to bake a series of beautifully glazed 'speculaasjes'. White Elephants is a stage for ceramic sculpture; Time Collages is the ninth exhibition in the series that will run from 2013. From the first exhibition, the initiative bears the title White Elephants; this refers to something too precious to keep, but too rare and beautiful to part with.
