Welcome to the Dreamhouse! A Postmodern Interior by Marloes and Wikke

Groninger Museum
14 June 2025 to 16 November 2025

About this activity.

Wander through a life-sized dream house in the Groninger Museum. All rooms – from the living room and bedroom to the garden – are filled in this exhibition with postmodern design from the museum's own collection. An almost cinematic world comes to life where details, contrasts, colors and humor take center stage. From scattered toys to used ashtrays – the rooms breathe daily life and play with the imperfection that characterizes real interiors.

The Groninger Museum has the largest museum collection of postmodern design in the country, built up since the eighties under the leadership of former director Frans Haks. In Welcome to the Dreamhouse! you can see work by influential designers such as Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass and other members of the Memphis group, including Michele de Lucchi, Masanori Umeda, George Sowden and Nathalie du Pasquier. There is also attention for Philippe Starck, designer of one of the museum's pavilions, and for designers such as Studio Job, Maarten Baas and Jaime Hayon, who each give postmodernism a new interpretation in their own way.

The exhibition is designed by Marloes en Wikke, renowned scenographers for theater and opera, who with their unconventional style create a playful and theatrical presentation.
