War and Peace
About this activity.
In the context of 80 years of freedom, we are organizing the exhibition War and Peace from May 3 to June 28. This is not only about 80 years of liberation, but also about the question of why we protest so fiercely against war and why we do not accept it as one of the painful, unpleasant aspects of life. We have learned little in the past 80 years, there are still wars and unstable peaces everywhere. We are in a circle, from which we will never escape. Some would also like to draw attention to the war in Gaza and the tens of thousands of deaths among the Palestinian population, others to what is happening in Ukraine, in Syria, in Sudan. D-Day was a victory over tyranny, extremism and hatred 80 years ago, but in 2025 the world is grimmer and more unstable than ever. Peace and freedom are no longer so self-evident and must be fought for continuously. But that war will disappear in the future is wishful thinking. Our exhibition is not only about 80 years of liberation, but also about this. The title is therefore War and Peace, after the book by Tolstoy.
Herbert Müller from the German Südbrookmerland in Ostfriesland has made beautiful works about contemporary wars and is participating as a guest.
